The Chipmunks are Winning

Mary has put her flower pots in front of the house for summer and the flowers are growing nicely. We think they could look better if the ground squirrels (chipmunks) would stop digging in her flower containers. She has done some research on how to prevent chipmunks from digging in flower pots, and she found one solution she liked.

Chili Powder to the Rescue

Apparently, if you put pepper or chili powder in the dirt, that tends to discourage the little buggers, and your flowers can grow unmolested. So Mary proceeded to sprinkle prodigious amounts of chili powder on the soil around the flowers. It seemed to work, until I noticed a little toy van on the sidewalk one morning. The plastic toy looked like something a child might play with; which looked eerily similar to one I saw the kids playing with at the neighbor's house.

Upon closer inspection, it appeared the ground squirrels had confiscated the kid's toy and had set up a taco and barbeque truck. They even sent me this picture. They must be using the chili powder Mary had put in the soil to spice up their flowers.

Not to worry, Mary doesn't give up easily. So she figured if cats have problems with tin foil, maybe the chipmunks will, too. Makes sense that could be a possibility. So she spent time yesterday spreading tin foil around the flowers in the pot. They looked like this when she was done.

This is what I saw this morning when I looked out the window.

All the ground squirrels were wearing tinfoil hats, while they enjoyed the delicious flowers Mary had planted.

I hoped you enjoyed this story. You might also like some of the books I write. Though none of them are as hilarious as our battle with the chipmunks, the stories are YA Fantasy and are riveting and exciting.
