Create an Abundance Mentality

Create an Abundance Mentality and

You Will be Far Happier

This is a quote from Joanna Penn of The Creative Penn.

Create an Abundance Mentality and You Will be Far Happier

What do you think of throughout the day? Are your thoughts on the problems that are plaguing your every waking moment, or do you have a strategy to overcome those issues and it's just a matter of staying focused, positive, and moving toward your goals?

I've seen bad times and I've seen good times, though I've never held a bundle of $100 bills in my hands. I won't pretend that bad times aren't difficult and depressing. My family has been there and it's hard. What do you do when your income isn't meeting your outgo? And then a major catastrophe happens at your house, like tree roots have grown into the drainage pipes and your toilets back up? That might cost $10K dollars to dig up the lawn and replace the pipes.

Where do you get the money?

Guess what? I don't know, but you'll figure it out. Try not to say something to your spouse that causes additional tension in your life. You don't need to add another layer of stress and disappointment.

I used to get down on myself every time something bad happened in my life, as if it was my fault. It's not me, it's not you. Tree roots grow into clay piping, shingles get blown off of roofs, and water damage occurs inside houses.

What can I offer to help? Change your attitude and change your life. It'll still be hard working through those situations that take the life out of you, but begin seeing the wonderful things in your life and be thankful for those wonderful things.

The car started this morning. Be thankful.

You still have a job. Be thankful.

Your children spilled their bowl of cereal. Be thankful.

Then begin these three steps.

  1. Look in the mirror four times a day, smile and say twenty-five times while smiling, "I feel happy. I feel healthy. I feel terrific."
  2. No matter how horrible you feel when you walk into work, no matter the problems you're facing, and the troubles you have at home, on the job, or with your parents, and someone asks, "How's it going?" You say these words, "Best day ever." And put a smile on your face.
  3. Last advice is Save Your Money.

Repeat positive messages to yourself as you look in a mirror.

If all you can save is $10 a paycheck, then save $10 a paycheck. Put it in the bank and don't touch it. Look for places where you can get a decent interest of at least 1% or these days as much as 4%. Over time that money will grow and give you confidence that your financial problems won't kill you.

A piece of advice, don't look at the money and think, Oh I have enough for a boat. No. This is an emergency fund or a retirement account. This is your confidence account, so never spend this money on entertainment or vacations. Create another account for those things.

Keep raising the amount of money you put into the account as your income rises or your expenses drop. Every year think about increasing it at least $10 a paycheck or more.

By doing these things you'll soon find you have a nice war chest, that'll create confidence in you when you go to make life decisions. You'll begin to see in your life a feeling of abundance. You'll see yourself as more mature than you might have been. Then those three tricks I told you earlier will begin to be less tricks and you'll really begin to feel them in your life.

People will look at you differently, because you're more confident and mature. A team player. A positive person and not a complainer. A leader.

Create that feeling of abundance in your life.
