I saw my first robin of the year outside my back door this week. Joy, joy, joy! Spring is coming. The weather warmed up enough to allow me to run outside. Even though there was standing water on the bike paths, I was able to get in two four-mile runs this week. One day the temperature was in the thirties, but the wind chill was like twenty-three degrees. So, it's still not summer like temperatures.
When I ran by the swamp area near our house, I saw red-wing blackbirds hanging on the marsh grass and chirping their familiar song. As you probably know, Meteorological Spring is on March 1st. Then you have Astronomical Spring which is on the vernal equinox, which is March 20th this year. The vernal equinox is when the sun shines directly on the Earth's equator.
Yesterday, I got on my hands and knees and began cleaning up the yard in anticipation of the plants beginning to poke their heads out of the ground. We have a plant called a sedum or also known as stonecrop. Sometimes, I trim the plant's flowers in the fall and other times I trim them in the Spring. This year I chose the Spring. Why do I leave them? I think it's mostly just laziness. Ha!
The whole project took a couple of hours.
We received news, that our new French Doors were in and we scheduled an appointment to have them installed next week. We're looking forward to the new look. The others have seen better days, (22 years old).
